What it changes

The benefits

The cellular shade (also called a honeycomb shade) is made of cells that trap a layer of air between the window and the room. This still air insulates: less cold coming in during winter, less heat coming in during summer, and a slightly lighter heating bill. It is the most insulating shade in our BlankBlinds line, offered in light-filtering or blackout, in three cell sizes.

The best insulator in the line

No other shade in our catalogue insulates as well as a cellular shade. On a cold window in winter, you can feel the difference with your hand.

It lightens the bill

Less heat loss in winter, less heat gain in summer: a cellular shade works for you all year, not just for light.

Light-filtering or full darkness

The same product, light-filtering for a living room or blackout for a bedroom: one shade that covers both needs depending on the room.

Child-safe

Child-safe covered chain, cordless (spring-loaded) or motor: no loop within reach of little ones.

Discreet profile

Even fully raised, a cellular shade takes up very little space at the top of the window.

How it works

How it works

  1. Honeycomb cellsThe fabric is folded into closed cells that hold a layer of still air; it is this air, not the fabric itself, that does most of the insulating.
  2. Three cell sizes25 mm for a discreet profile, 38 mm for the most common choice, 45 mm for the best insulation. Almost all our cellular shades are single cell; the 38 mm also comes in a light-filtering double cell, for even more insulation.
  3. Light-filtering or blackoutThe light-filtering fabric filters light like a dual zebra shade; the blackout blocks light like a blackout shade. The back of the fabric is white for light-filtering, and a slightly deeper white (not pure white) for blackout.
  4. An aluminized lining, as an optionA reflective layer added behind the fabric, to push back even more heat in summer and hold in more indoor heat in winter.

What we no longer sell

We no longer sell the pleated shade (fine accordion, no cells): its corded mechanism is no longer offered. The cellular shade is a better replacement: the same accordion look, plus the insulating layer and controls with no accessible loop.

Where it goes

Applications

Cold or poorly insulated windows

Where a cellular shade makes the biggest difference, winter and summer.

Bedrooms

In blackout, for full darkness with a compact, discreet profile.

Living rooms and offices

In light-filtering, for soft light and insulation, without a heavy shade.

Large glazed surfaces

Real help against heat loss from a wall that is almost all glass.

Motorization

Covered chain, cordless or Dooya motor

Three ways to operate it, none with an accessible loop: child-safe covered chain, cordless, or motor. The Dooya motor is covered for 3 years. For the app, schedules or voice control, we add a compatible Neo controller.

Warranty. The BlankBlinds cellular shade is covered for 5 years by Le Gars des Stores: fabric, mechanism and installation. The Dooya motor, if there is one, is covered for 3 years. Only accidental damage isn't covered: we replace it, but it's billed.

Our warranties are in addition to the warranties provided by law.

5-year Le Gars des Stores warranty
  • Child-safe covered chain: the chain is enclosed in a rigid chain cover; a two-button handle slides along it (top button to raise, bottom button to lower)
  • Cordless, if you prefer: you set the shade at the height you want with your fingers, and it stays there; no chain, operated by hand from the bottom rail
  • Dooya motor with rechargeable battery or hardwired; dedicated remote
  • Neo Smart Controller: app, schedules, shade groups by room, remote control
  • Neo Blue Link: direct Bluetooth control of the shade from your phone, without going through the controller
  • Compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri (via Matter) through the Neo controller
  • Dooya motor under 3-year warranty

Frequently asked questions

We answer

25, 38 or 45 mm: which size should I choose?

38 mm is our most common choice, a good balance between discretion and insulation. 25 mm for a slimmer profile, or a small window. 45 mm when insulation is the number one priority: the coldest window in the house, for example.

Single or double cell?

We mainly offer single cell, which already insulates very well. Double cell, with two layers of air instead of one, comes in 38 mm light-filtering only, for those who want to push insulation even further.

Do you still sell pleated shades?

No. The traditional pleated shade used a corded mechanism that we no longer offer. The cellular shade replaces it: the same accordion spirit, plus insulation and safe controls.

Does it really insulate, or is it just a sales pitch?

It really insulates: the air trapped in the cells acts as a buffer layer between the window and the room. It is not a replacement for a poorly insulated window, but it is the shade in our line that helps the most against cold and heat.

Is the aluminized lining worth the cost?

If the window is very exposed to the sun in summer or to the cold in winter, yes: the reflective layer adds an extra notch of insulation. On a more sheltered window, the cellular shade alone is more than enough.

How much does it cost?

The price depends on the cell size, the opacity, the lining and the operating system. Text us a photo of your windows with approximate measurements (width × height, in inches) at (514) 967-3629 to get started; the firm price comes after the measurements are verified: at the in-home consultation, or with your true measurements if you order yourself.

Where do you install?

The West Island and Montreal, Vaudreuil-Dorion, the South Shore, the North Shore, western Laval, and the Eastern Townships with our local team. Elsewhere, depending on the project.
