A Roman shade folds into horizontal pleats instead of rolling onto a tube. This version is made from our solar or blackout shade fabrics, for a crisper drape than a drapery fabric. It is our simplest and most affordable version of the Roman shade.

Roman shade or roller shade?
A Roman shade gets raised and lowered less often than a roller shade: it is a style choice as much as an everyday window treatment. If you adjust the light several times a day, a roller shade (solar or dual zebra) remains more practical. The Roman shade, on the other hand, brings a texture and a drape that a roller shade does not have.

Two ways to operate a Roman shade at home, both with no accessible loop. The child-safe covered chain for simple everyday use; the motor for large windows or to do everything from a remote.
Warranty. The BlankBlinds Roman shade is covered for 5 years by Le Gars des Stores: fabric, mechanism and installation. The Somfy motor, if there is one, is covered for 5 years. Only accidental damage isn't covered: we replace it, but it's billed.
Our warranties are in addition to the warranties provided by law.

We answer
Is it a good choice for privacy from a close neighbour?
It is mostly a style choice: the Roman shade is not the best performer for blocking the view or precisely controlling light. For a very exposed window, a dual zebra shade or Shangri-La does that job better. We go into more detail in our blog post, “Function or design”.
Can I get a folded or cascade style?
Not on this shade-fabric version, which always stays flat and crisp. For a folded or cascade style, our Roman shade in drapery fabric offers those options.
How is it different from a drapery Roman shade?
This one is made from our shade fabrics: it is simpler and more affordable. The other version, in drapery fabric sewn in a workroom, is dressier and more textured; you will find it in our custom curtain line.
How does the child-safe covered chain work?
The chain is enclosed in a rigid chain cover, and a two-button handle slides along it. Press the top button and pull the handle down: the shade goes up. Press the bottom button and pull the handle down: the shade comes down. The chain is never accessible.
How much does it cost?
The price depends on the size, the fold style and the operating system. Text us a photo of your windows with approximate measurements (width × height, in inches) at (514) 967-3629 and we will give you a ballpark quickly; the firm price comes after the measurements are verified: at the in-home consultation, or with your true measurements if you order yourself.
