Measurements for a quote
To the nearest inchTo the nearest centimetre is perfect for a quote: more precision wouldn't change the price. The firm price comes after the measurements are verified: at the in-home consultation, or with your true measurements if you order yourself.

True measurements
Your measurements are used to make your blinds: they must be exact and verifiable. The firm price comes with these true measurements, and you can then pick up your blinds at our place. If you provide your own measurements, a measuring error is your responsibility; if our team measures, it's ours.
Measure with a steel tape or a laser: a phone isn't accurate enough to order.

Don't subtract anything
Give us the exact opening size: we take off 1/4 in.6 mm so the blind moves without rubbing.
One window at a time
Two windows that look alike almost never have the same measurements.
Width × height
Always write the width first, then the height, and state the unit.
Inside the frame or on the wall?
The mount changes how you measure. Not sure? Measure both ways: we'll advise you.
The blind sits inside the window opening. The frame stays visible. Most of our blinds need about 3 in.76 mm of depth.
Width, in 3 places
From one inside edge of the frame to the other: top, middle and bottom. Keep the smallest.
Height, in 3 places
From the top of the opening down to the sill: left, centre and right. Keep the smallest.
Depth
From the edge of the frame to the glass, or to whatever sticks out: crank, handle, latches.

Are your three widths quite different? The frame isn't square, which is common. Write down all three: we'll tell you if an outside mount is better.
Less than 3 in.76 mm of depth?
Crank, handle, latches or remote? We still mount inside the frame, half and half: about 1 1/2 in.38 mm of the cassette stays inside the frame (sometimes 1 5/8 in.41 mm), the rest sticks out. The fabric still rolls down inside the frame.
The blind is fastened on the trim or above it, and covers the whole window. Ideal when the frame is shallow or out of square.
The top of the blind
On the trim or higher on the wall: you need a flat surface for the brackets.
Width
The trim, from one outside edge to the other, as is. We usually add 1 3/8 in.35 mm so the fabric covers the whole trim.
Height
From the planned top of the blind down to where you want it to end: the sill, below the apron, or lower.
Obstacles
Baseboard heater, furniture, handle, curtain rod: note them and take a photo.
Why 1 3/8 in.35 mm more? The head of the blind is a little wider than the fabric: it extends about 11/16 in.17 mm past the trim on each side. Keep a little flat wall on each side.

To the 1/8 or the 1/16 in.?How much do we take off? It depends on who measures. Either way, we always round down.

Measuring with a tape
Steel tape measure
- Hold the end of the tape against one side of the frame.
- Pull it straight across to the other side.
- Read the measurement at eye level.
Avoid a sewing tape: it stretches.
Reading fractions
Between two numbers there is one inch. The longer the line, the bigger the fraction.

Measuring with an iPhone
Measure app
- Open the Measure app, already installed.
- Move the phone slowly so it can see the window.
- Put the dot on one side of the frame, tap +, drag to the other side, tap + again.
- Tap the measurement: it shows in inches and in centimetres.
- Tap the capture button and send us the photo.

Measuring with an Android
AR measuring app
- In Google Play, search for “measure”: pick an augmented-reality (AR) app.
- Move the phone slowly so it recognizes the surface.
- Put one point on one side of the frame, then another on the other side.
- Take a screenshot with the measurement and send it to us.

Measuring with a laser
Laser distance measure
- Set the display to inches, to the 1/16to millimetres, measuring from the back of the device.
- Hold the back against one side of the frame and aim at the other side: the dot must land on the frame, not in the glass.
- On the wall, hold a piece of cardboard at the edge you want to stop the beam.
- The display shows 1/16ths? Round down to the 1/8.Round down to the millimetre.
The depth is too short for a laser: take it with a tape.

Should I take off a fraction so the blind fits?
No. Give us the exact opening size, rounded down: inside the frame, we take off 1/4 in. (1/8 in. if a professional measured to the 1/16 in.)6 mm (3 mm if a professional measured).
On the wall, how far does the blind extend past the trim?
We usually add 1 3/8 in.35 mm to the trim width: the fabric covers the whole trim and the head extends about 11/16 in.17 mm on each side. Give us the trim width as is.
Inches or centimetres?
Both. Tap “Metric”, next to the rectangles: all the instructions switch to millimetres.
My frame isn't deep enough. Is it still possible?
Often, yes. With less than 3 in.76 mm, we mount the blind half and half: about 1 1/2 in.38 mm of the cassette inside the frame, the rest sticking out, and the fabric rolling down inside the frame.
My frame isn't straight. Is that a problem?
No, it's common. Write down your three widths and three heights: if the difference is large, we'll suggest an outside mount, which hides it.
Is my phone accurate enough?
For a quick quote, yes. To order, measure with a steel tape or a laser.
