What it changes
The benefits
From a distance, the Shangri-La shade looks like a venetian blind, but its soft fabric vanes are suspended between two transparent sheers. You tilt the vanes to adjust the light, which stays diffused and soft. It has a more understated look than a dual zebra shade.
The control of a venetian blind
You tilt the vanes to shape the light and the view precisely, as with rigid slats — but more softly.
Never hard lines of light
Unlike a classic venetian blind, the light stays diffused even with the vanes closed, without the telltale stripes on walls and floors.
A designer favourite
Many interior designers prefer the Shangri-La to the dual zebra shade: the look is softer, less graphic.
A distinctive look
The fabric and sheers bring a texture and softness that an aluminum or wood blind doesn't have.
Child safe
Child-safe covered chain or motor: no loop within reach of little ones.
Adjustable privacy
From vanes fully closed to fully open, with every degree of privacy in between.
How it works
How it works
- Two sheers, vanes in betweenThe shade is made of two transparent sheers, with fabric vanes suspended horizontally between them. This sandwich construction is what creates the look and the diffusing effect.
- The vanes tiltBy tilting the vanes, you adjust how much light and view you get, just as with a venetian blind — open for light and view, closed for privacy, or anywhere in between.
- Light-filtering or blackout vanesThe vane fabric comes in a light-filtering version, or a blackout version that blocks much more light. Even in blackout, it's never completely dark: a little light always gets through between each vane.
- Operation with no accessible loopThe child-safe covered chain — the chain is enclosed in a rigid chain cover, and a two-button handle slides along it — or a Somfy motor.

Shangri-La or dual zebra shade?
The Shangri-La tilts its vanes, like a softer venetian blind: the light stays diffused at every setting, even with blackout vanes. The dual zebra shade layers light-filtering and opaque bands: the change from open to closed is sharper. It's as much about look as function; we show you both in your home.

Frequently asked questions
We answer
Is it a good choice for a window facing the neighbours?
Yes: tilted vanes block the view even in the evening, which a solar shade doesn't do. It's one of the best options for cutting off the view into a side window of a row house.
Why is it called Shangri-La and not Silhouette?
Silhouette® is a Hunter Douglas trademark for a shade with fabric vanes set between two sheers. Le Gars des Stores doesn't sell that product under that brand; we offer a Shangri-La type shade, built on a comparable principle.
How is it different from a classic venetian blind?
The principle of tilting slats is the same, but a venetian blind has rigid slats stacked on top of each other. The Shangri-La has fabric vanes suspended between two sheers: the light stays diffused even with the vanes closed, without the hard lines of a venetian blind.
How is it different from a dual zebra shade?
The dual zebra shade slides two bands of fabric in front of each other. The Shangri-La tilts vanes, like a venetian blind. Both adjust light gradually, but the Shangri-La gives finer control of the angle, and the dual zebra shade a sharper change between open and closed.
Does it make the room completely dark?
No, even with blackout vanes: a little light always gets through between each vane and through the sheers. The Shangri-La filters a lot of light, in light-filtering or blackout, but for complete darkness, look at a blackout shade.
How does the child-safe covered chain work?
The chain is enclosed in a rigid chain cover, and a two-button handle slides along it. Press the top button and pull the handle down: the shade goes up. Press the bottom button and pull the handle down: the shade goes down. The chain is never accessible.
How much does it cost?
The price depends on the size, the collection and the operation. Text us a photo of your windows with approximate measurements (width × height, in inches) at (514) 967-3629 to get started; the firm price comes after the measurements are verified: at the in-home consultation, or with your true measurements if you order yourself.
Where do you install them?
The West Island and Montreal, Vaudreuil-Dorion, the South Shore, the North Shore, western Laval, and the Eastern Townships with our team on site. Elsewhere, depending on the project.
