Somfy LT50 and LT60 · 15 to 100 Nm
Somfy roller shutter motors
The tubular motor hides inside the shutter's shaft. It's chosen for the curtain weight and how you want to control it: RTS radio or a switch, with or without manual override. The same four versions for the whole VRM Industries range.
01 — Four ways to control
RTS, wired, with or without CMO.

RTS
Somfy radio: remote, wireless switch or TaHoma app. Connected to a junction box or an outlet. Electronic limits set with the remote.

RTS CMO
The same radio motor, with a compact manual override (CMO): during a power outage, the shutter opens with a crank.

Wired
Controlled by a three-position wall switch. The choice in new construction, while the walls are open, or for group controls in commercial buildings.

Wired CMO
The wired motor, with the compact manual override for power outages.
02 — The motors
The right torque, at the right price.
Price per motor, Somfy references, motor length. A dash means Somfy doesn't offer that version.

03 — How we choose
The curtain weight decides.
The torque needed depends on the curtain weight (slat weight × area) and the roll diameter. We calculate it at the measuring visit, with Somfy's tables and the shutter's spec sheets. To give you an idea of the weight to lift:
Thermo, 6 × 6 ft
36 sq. ft. × 0.75 lb/sq. ft. = 27 lb of curtain.
Fortis, 6 × 6 ft
36 sq. ft. × 1.65 lb/sq. ft. = 59.4 lb of curtain.
Atlas, 13 × 10 ft
130 sq. ft. × 2.15 lb/sq. ft. = 279.5 lb of curtain.
04 — What they have in common
Built for the outdoors.
120 V, 60 Hz
All the LT50 and LT60 motors on this page run on household current.
IP 44
Protected against splashing, for use inside the shaft of an exterior shutter.
Thermal protection
After 4 to 5 minutes of continuous operation, thermal protection stops the motor while it cools down.
−10 to 40 °C
Operating range published by Somfy (up to 60 °C for wired LT50 motors).
No parallel wiring
Two wired motors don't go on the same switch: we add an isolation relay or a group control.
5-year Somfy warranty
Certified Somfy Expert: we choose, install and program the motor.

06 — Frequently asked questions
What customers ask.
Which motor for my shutter?
It depends on the curtain weight: a small, light shutter needs a low-torque LT50, while a large Atlas door needs an LT60 (60 to 100 Nm). We calculate the exact torque at the measuring visit.
What is CMO?
Compact Manual Override: a manual override built into the motor. During a power outage, you open or close the shutter with a crank. Useful for a cottage, a garage door or a shop.
RTS or wired?
RTS avoids running control wires: remote, TaHoma app, schedules. Wired is controlled by a wall switch and suits new construction and group controls (shops, schools).
Can the shutters be controlled with the app or by voice?
Yes, with an RTS motor and Somfy's TaHoma: app, schedules, scenes, Alexa, Google and Apple.
Why does the price vary so much?
Torque, technology (radio or wired) and the manual override change the motor. The price shown is for the motor alone; the quote includes installation and programming.
