Work at height

High-window blind installation

Cathedral ceiling, stairwell, skylight, two-storey lobby: the windows others leave bare, we dress them. With our own scaffolding and an RBQ licence.

Text us a photo of the window, every day from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Cathedral ceilings

Large living room windows

A picture window that rises all the way to the roof, five or six metres off the floor, is spectacular but hard to reach. We fit it with a motorized Somfy solar shade to manage the light, then a ceiling-to-floor Ripple Fold sheer to soften the whole look. Remote, app or schedule: everything is controlled from the floor.

  • Motorized solar shade: the view stays, the glare goes
  • Ripple Fold sheer over it, ceiling to floor, made in Quebec — our most common combination
  • Motorized blackout shade for a mezzanine bedroom
  • Several blinds on the same wall, all synchronized

Stairwells

The window above the stairs

A window above a staircase has no flat floor beneath it. Depending on the height and width of the stairwell, we set up our scaffolding on secure footing, or a stair-adjustable ladder levelled on wood blocks — to measure, install and adjust as with any other window.

  • On-site measuring, from the scaffolding — no remote estimates
  • Manual blind with a covered chain if the window can be reached from the landing, motorized otherwise
  • Specialty shapes from templates if the window isn't rectangular

Skylights and glass roofs

Openings in the ceiling

A skylight or roof lantern is worked from below, at arm's length, on a stable platform. That's exactly what scaffolding makes possible. The blind is fixed in the opening, flat or sloped, and motorized as soon as the skylight is out of reach.

  • Roller shade, cellular shade or shutter depending on the skylight
  • Somfy motor for skylights out of reach, rod for accessible skylights
  • Several sections of a glass roof controlled together

Commercial and institutional

Atriums, lobbies, churches, gymnasiums

Public and commercial buildings often have their largest windows where nobody climbs: a two-storey entrance lobby, the nave of a church, the glass wall of a gymnasium. We equip these windows in batches, with our scaffolding, coordinating the installation with how the space is being used.

  • Bulk quote, one point of contact
  • Somfy 120 V wired or RS485 motorization for integration with building management
  • Arched church windows: specialty shapes from templates

Our own scaffolding

No last-minute rental, no ladder balancing act: scaffolding we know, set up by us, adapted to the room.

Every ladder imaginable

Small, medium, extension ladders, stepladders, a stair-adjustable ladder, wood blocks for levelling: the right support for every window, not a compromise.

RBQ licence 5683-0334-01

Le Gars des Stores is a contractor licensed by the Régie du bâtiment du Québec.

Floors protected before we climb

We cover the floor under the scaffolding and ladders: natural wood fibreboard panels (Tentest, 7/16 in) or SuperNova floor protector, multi-surface and waterproof — hardwood, laminate, vinyl, ceramic, carpet. Nothing gets scratched, and we leave the room as we found it.

Frequently asked questions

Our answers

How high can you install?

Our scaffolding covers the usual heights of homes and commercial buildings: cathedral ceilings, stairwells, mezzanines, two-storey lobbies. For a special case, we'll tell you at the consultation, with photos to back it up.

Does the scaffolding cost more?

Yes, there are extra fees depending on the height, always stated on the quote before we start — never a surprise afterwards.

Are you equipped for work at height?

Yes. We work with our own scaffolding, and Le Gars des Stores holds RBQ licence 5683-0334-01. Tell us about your project: we'll tell you what to plan for.

How do you measure a window you can't reach?

On site, from the scaffolding, with the same tools as for a window at floor level. We never make a blind from a measurement estimated from below.

Does a high window need to be motorized?

If you want to be able to open and close it, yes: 10 feet off the floor, a chain is useless. The Somfy motor is controlled by remote, by app, or on a schedule. A fixed blind, without motorization, is still possible if the window doesn't need to move.

How long does it take?

Setting up the scaffolding adds to the usual installation time. We plan the visit accordingly and protect the floors and furniture below.

A window too high for the others?

Text us a photo, and we'll tell you right away if it's doable — and it almost always is.
