What it changes

The benefits

A skylight is often high, sloped and out of reach. We can fit it with a roller shade, a cellular shade or, depending on its shape, a wood or PVC shutter. A reachable skylight can be operated by hand or with a control pole; in other cases, motorization is generally the most practical solution.

Designed for a ceiling opening

Mounting and operation suited to a position that ordinary window blinds don't cover.

A choice of several products

Solar or blackout shade, cellular shade for insulation, or wood or PVC shutter — not a single product imposed for this particular opening.

Control of direct sun

A skylight catches the sun from straight above, often more intensely than a window — the shade cuts the excess without blocking all the light.

Motorization integrated with the smart home

A Somfy motor is programmed with the other blinds in the house: same app, same schedules, same remote.

How it works

How it works

  1. Mounted in the ceiling openingThe shade is fastened directly in the skylight frame, flat or sloped depending on the pitch of the skylight.
  2. Several products can be installedThe fabric of our roller shades (solar, blackout), a cellular shade for insulation, or a wood or PVC shutter — the choice depends on the style and budget you have in mind.
  3. By hand or with a pole, if the skylight is reachableIf the skylight is low enough to reach, a control pole or even your hand is enough — no motor needed.
  4. Motorized for the restAs soon as the skylight is out of reach — most installations — a Somfy motor becomes the only practical way to operate it day to day.

Pole or motor?

A pole is enough for a low skylight you can reach by hand without effort. As soon as the skylight is high up or sloped in a way that makes a pole impractical, the motor becomes the only realistic choice for daily use. We assess that together at the measuring visit.

Where it goes

Applications

Roof skylights

The most common use — motorized in the vast majority of cases.

Roof lanterns and glass roofs

Large glazed openings in the ceiling, often with several sections to motorize together.

Low, reachable skylights

A control pole is enough, with no electricity.

Certified Somfy Expert

Somfy motor, or pole for a reachable skylight

Most skylights are out of reach: the Somfy motor then becomes the only practical way to operate the shade day to day.

Warranty. The skylight shade is guaranteed for 5 years by Le Gars des Stores — the fabric, the mechanism and the installation. The Somfy motor, if there is one, is guaranteed for 5 years. Only accidental damage isn't covered: we replace it, but it's billed.

Our warranties are in addition to the warranties provided by law.

Frequently asked questions

We answer

Can I get a manual version?

Yes, if the skylight is low enough to reach: your hand or a control pole is enough. As soon as the skylight is out of reach, the motor becomes necessary for practical daily use.

Does it work for a sloped skylight?

Yes, the mounting adapts to the pitch of the skylight — flat or sloped depending on your roof configuration.

Which product should I choose for my skylight?

Three common options: the fabric of our roller shades (solar or blackout) to filter or block light, the cellular shade for insulation, or the wood or PVC shutter for a more millwork look. We show you all three.

Can it be programmed with my other motorized blinds?

Yes, if you already use a Somfy motor elsewhere in the house: same app, same scenes, same remote.

How much does it cost?

The price depends on the size, the slope and the operation. Text us a photo of your skylight at (514) 967-3629 to get started; the firm price comes after the measurements are verified.

Where do you install them?

The West Island and Montreal, Vaudreuil-Dorion, the South Shore, the North Shore, western Laval, and the Eastern Townships with our team on site. Elsewhere, depending on the project.
