What it changes
The benefits
Same principle as our wood shutters (a frame fastened in the window recess, adjustable louvres, a tilt rod) but in PVC rather than solid wood. PVC does not swell, does not crack and is not bothered by constant humidity: it is the choice for a bathroom, a laundry room, or any room where wood would age poorly.
Moisture-resistant
Unlike wood, PVC does not swell, crack or warp in a humid room: bathroom, laundry room, basement.
No cord, no mechanism
Like the wood version: nothing to raise or lower, only the rod to tilt the louvres.
Easy to care for
A damp cloth is enough; PVC does not stain or fade the way some paints on wood do.
The look of wood
In white or ivory, PVC louvres are hard to tell apart from solid wood once installed.
More affordable price
Generally less expensive than solid wood, for uses where moisture resistance matters more than a natural material.

PVC or wood?
PVC comes in white or ivory and holds up better in humid rooms. For wood grain, a stain or another colour, choose the wood version and keep it for dry rooms.

Operation
Millwork, not a mechanism
As with the wood version, PVC shutters have no motorized version: the louvres are tilted by hand, with the rod.
Warranty. PVC shutters are covered for 5 years by Le Gars des Stores: material, hardware and installation. Only accidental damage isn't covered, since it isn't a defect.

How are they different from wood shutters?
PVC takes on the style of the wood shutter, but stands up better to humidity. It is offered in white or ivory, with 2.5 or 3.5 in louvres and in regular shapes. For a triangle, an arch or a custom colour, choose wood.
Does it really stand up to bathroom humidity?
Yes, that is exactly why we recommend it for those rooms: PVC does not warp with steam and constant humidity, unlike solid wood.
Does it look like plastic?
The louvres are white or ivory PVC: the colour is part of the material, it is not paint. Once installed in the window, the texture and lines are the same as a wood shutter.
Which louvre width should I choose?
3.5 in is the most common choice. 2.5 in for a shallow frame or a more traditional look.
Can they be motorized?
No: like the wood version, they are fixed millwork. For a motorized solution, we look at our blinds or our roller shutters instead.
How much does it cost?
Generally less than the wood version. The price depends on the louvre width and the size of the window.
