What it changes
The benefits
A vertical blind is made of vanes hanging from a track, which tilt to adjust the light and slide to one side to clear the opening completely. It's the classic blind for patio doors and large sliding windows: unlike a roller shade that goes straight up, it pushes to the side, exactly the way you open the patio door itself.
Made for large openings
A vertical blind easily covers a patio door or a large sliding window, where a roller shade quickly becomes too wide or too heavy.
Clears completely
The vanes slide to one side, like a curtain: the opening stays completely clear to walk through the door.
Adjustable light
Tilting the vanes adjusts the light and the view, without having to open or close the whole blind.
Child safe
The draw wand system has no cord or chain: nothing within reach of little ones.
Stands up to daily use
Designed for a door you open several times a day, without wearing out like a fabric handled that often.
How it works
How it works
- Vanes hanging from a trackEach vane hangs from a carrier attached to a top track. The whole assembly moves like a curtain, but with rigid vanes instead of continuous fabric.
- Two vane widths2 in for a slimmer profile, 3.5 in for the most common choice and the best hold.
- Tilt, then slideYou turn the vanes to adjust the light, like a venetian blind on its side. Then you push them to one side to clear the whole opening — practical in front of a patio door you use every day.
- A draw wand system, with no cordA rigid draw wand does both operations: you turn it to tilt the vanes, and push or pull it to slide them. No cord or chain.

Vertical blind or sliding panels?
The vertical blind remains the classic choice for a patio door, with individual vanes. For a wider, more contemporary look, sliding panels do the same job with wide fabric panels instead of narrow vanes. The choice is a matter of style; both cover a large window equally well.
Where it goes
Applications
Patio and French doors
The most common use: simple operation, an opening that clears completely.
Large sliding windows
A width few other blinds cover as well, in a single installation.
Offices and businesses
A classic in commercial settings too, in front of large storefront windows or office windows.
Operation
Draw wand system
A rigid draw wand does both operations: you turn it to tilt the vanes, and push or pull it to slide them. No cord or chain.

Frequently asked questions
We answer
2 in or 3.5 in: which width should I choose?
3.5 in is the most common choice, a good balance between look and hold. 2 in gives a slimmer profile, for a more discreet look or a small opening.
Why a draw wand rather than a chain?
A vertical blind chain forms a loop, and a traverse cord hangs at the side: two hazards for young children. The draw wand does the same job, tilting and sliding, with no cord or chain.
Can it be motorized?
No: the vertical blind is operated with a draw wand only. To motorize a patio door or a large window, we'll look together at the products that can be motorized with Somfy.
Vertical blind or sliding panels: which should I choose?
The vertical blind, with its narrow vanes, remains the classic choice for a patio door. Sliding panels, which are wider, give a more contemporary look. Both cover a large opening well; it's a matter of style.
Are vertical blinds out of style?
Vertical blinds are less in demand than they used to be, but they're still very practical for a patio door or a large sliding window. They slide aside to clear the opening and cover wide spans with ease. For a more contemporary look, compare them with vertical sheer shades, sliding panels or curtains.
How much does it cost?
The price depends on the total width, the vane width and the operation. Text us a photo of your door or window with approximate measurements (width × height, in inches) at (514) 967-3629 to get started; the firm price comes after the measurements are verified: at the in-home consultation, or with your true measurements if you order yourself.
Where do you install them?
The West Island and Montreal, Vaudreuil-Dorion, the South Shore, the North Shore, western Laval, and the Eastern Townships with our team on site. Elsewhere, depending on the project.
