The benefits
The blackout curtain is the thick, lined fabric you close in the evening: it blocks light, dampens some of the noise, and gives a room the fullness of a real curtain. Heavier than a sheer, it hangs with weight and volume: the choice for a bedroom, a living room you want to close off in the evening, or simply for the look of a curtain with presence.
Darkness, or nearly
A blackout curtain blocks the light that passes through the fabric. Unlike a blind, a little daylight remains at the sides and at the top of the track; for full darkness, look at a roller shutter.
Dampens noise
The heavy, lined fabric absorbs some of the ambient noise, useful in a bedroom or facing a busy street.
The fullness of a real curtain
The weight of the fabric gives a drape a sheer does not have: for a living room that wants presence.
Motorization for a heavy fabric
A blackout curtain is heavier to pull than a sheer: the Somfy motor makes all the difference on a long track.

How it works
- A heavy, lined fabricThe main fabric is lined (a second layer sewn behind it), which blocks light, insulates a little from the cold and dampens some of the outside noise.
- Your choice of heading styleFlat, French pleat, inverted French pleat, grommets or Ripple Fold, as with all our curtains.
- Alone, or on a double trackAlone on one track, to close off a room completely. In front of or behind a sheer, on a double track, to have both uses.
- Draw wand or Somfy motorPull a draw wand, or control a Somfy motor: handy for a heavy curtain you do not want to pull by hand every evening.

Blackout curtain or roller shutter?
A blackout curtain blocks light through the fabric, but a sliver often comes through at the sides and over the top. For maximum darkness, choose a blackout shade with side tracks or a roller shutter. The curtain remains an excellent choice for style, fullness and room darkening.

Warranty. The track and the installation are covered for 5 years by Le Gars des Stores. The Somfy motor, if there is one, is covered for 5 years. The fabric and the sewing are covered against manufacturing defects.

Frequently asked questions
We answer
Does it give full darkness?
No, not completely: a sliver of light comes through at the sides and at the top of the track, as with any curtain. For absolute darkness, a roller shutter is what you need. The blackout curtain remains very effective at blocking most of the light and giving the room fullness.
Blackout curtain or blackout shade (blind)?
A blackout roller shade opens and closes more often, in a more compact format. The blackout curtain gives the fullness and drape of a real curtain, for use you adjust once a day. Many bedrooms have both, layered.
Is it heavy to pull?
It depends on the fabric and the width. On a long track with a well-lined fabric, we recommend the Somfy motor: nicer than pulling a heavy fabric every evening.
How much does it cost?
The price depends on the track width, the fabric, the lining and the operating system. Text us a photo of the room at (514) 967-3629 to get started; the firm price comes after the measurements are verified: at the in-home consultation, or with your true measurements if you order yourself.
