What sets this motor apart.
Somfy designed this tubular motor for vertical exterior screens, including ZIP screens with side tracks. It delivers 50 newton-metres at 14 rpm and runs on 120 volts.
It detects obstacles to protect the fabric and the patio furniture, and automatically adjusts the fabric tension, a function specific to ZIP screens. Its electronic limit switch ensures precise stops.
It is the most powerful in the Maestria+ 50 lineup, and also the slowest: the extra torque comes at the cost of speed.

The right blind for this motor.
Depends on the screen
Blind width
The minimum width depends on the screen, not just the motor.
The motor measures 26.89 in (683 mm). The minimum fabric width matches that length, plus the end fittings and the screen's housing. Somfy does not publish a minimum width for this motor.
Le Gars des Stores confirms the allowable width at measurement, based on the housing and tube selected.
What to consider before choosing
- A 120 V power supply must be planned outdoors, near the housing or as a direct connection. An electrician determines the circuit based on the actual load and the applicable code. This is the main difference from battery-powered interior motors.
- This motor runs on RTS: control is one-way. The remote or TaHoma sends the command without receiving the actual position of the fabric.
- Torque is chosen according to the size of the screen and the weight of the fabric. Le Gars des Stores confirms the right model at measurement.
- It turns at 14 rpm, compared with 20 for the other three models. A large fabric therefore takes longer to go up or down.
- Its 26.89 in (683 mm) length exceeds that of the 10 and 25 Nm models. On a narrow opening, it may not fit.

What customers ask.
Which screen is the Maestria+ 50 RTS 550R2 suited to?
Very large exterior screens and heavy fabrics, when the 535A2 is not enough. Torque is chosen according to the size of the screen and the weight of the fabric; Le Gars des Stores confirms it at measurement.
Why does it turn more slowly?
Because it favours power. The 550R2 turns at 14 rpm, compared with 20 for the 10, 25 and 35 Nm models. A large fabric therefore takes a little longer to operate.
Do I need an outdoor electrical outlet?
Yes. The system needs an outdoor 120 V power supply near the housing, or a direct connection, depending on the motor. The location is confirmed at the measuring visit. An electrician determines the circuit and how many motors it can power, based on the actual load and the applicable code. Somfy also offers 24-foot extension cables, so the power can be much farther from the shade.
Which controls does it work with?
With all Somfy RTS controls: Situo or Telis remotes, and the TaHoma box for the app, schedules and voice control. RTS sends the command without feedback: the remote does not show the position of the fabric.
Is the most powerful motor always the best choice?
No. A motor that is too powerful for the fabric adds nothing and turns more slowly. The right model is the one whose torque matches the size of the screen and the weight of the fabric, which the measurement confirms.
Do you install in Montreal, Sherbrooke and the Eastern Townships?
