01 — At a glance

What sets this motor apart.

This motor combines ordinary 120 volt power with the RS485 protocol. Each motor has a unique address on the bus and communicates both ways: the system knows the actual position of each blind at all times.

Somfy places it in its SDN network, designed for projects where the reliability of a wired link matters more than the convenience of radio. It integrates directly with third-party systems and with the animeo IP solar manager.

It is built for buildings: education, healthcare, hospitality, offices, retail, transportation, recreation — and high-end automated homes.

  • Addressable RS485 bus

Each motor has its own address. No radio, no cloud gateway.

  • Two-way communication

The system knows the actual position of each blind at all times.

  • 4 newton-metres at 36 rpm

Fast and versatile, like the other 404S2 models in the 400 series.

  • 42 dB

Designed for Silence range, with four noise-reduction patents.

  • UL listed

UL-listed motor, designed for commercial and institutional construction.

  • Fast connector

Tool-free connection, like the other motors in the 400 series.

03 — Which blinds

The right blind for this motor.

22 3/4 in

Blind width

This motor requires a blind at least 22 3/4 in wide.

Below this width, the motor does not fit in the aluminum tube the fabric rolls onto.

It shares the exact dimensions of the Sonesse 40 Zigbee 404S2: same body, same 20.24 in length, same 4 newton-metre torque. Only the communication method changes.

What to consider before choosing

  • No remote works with this motor. It has neither RTS nor Zigbee. Control goes through the RS485 bus, a DecoFlex SDN keypad or a third-party automation system. An RTS receiver for SDN is available to add radio control.
  • Commissioning requires an RS485 configuration tool, which assigns addresses and sets the limits. This is not a motor you program with a remote on site.
  • It draws 0.5 W on standby, compared with 0.05 W for the Zigbee 120 V version. In a building with a hundred blinds, the difference is 45 W around the clock.
  • For an ordinary home, a Zigbee or RTS motor meets the need with less complexity and at a lower cost. This motor is justified when the project requires a deterministic wired link and integration with a building management system.

05 — Frequently asked questions

What customers ask.

Is there a 120 volt RS485 blind motor?

Yes. The Sonesse 40 RS485 404S2 combines ordinary 120 V power with a two-way RS485 bus. It delivers 4 newton-metres at 36 rpm and runs at 42 dB.

How is it different from the 24 V Sonesse 30 RS485?

The Sonesse 40 plugs into ordinary 120 V power, with no transformer or power distribution panel, and offers 4 newton-metres instead of 2. The 24 V Sonesse 30 remains preferable when the building is already wired for low voltage or when Power over Ethernet is wanted.

Is this motor certified for commercial construction?

It is UL listed, a sought-after selling point in commercial and institutional construction.

Can it be controlled with a remote?

Not directly. It has neither RTS nor Zigbee. Control goes through the bus, a DecoFlex SDN keypad or a third-party system. An RTS receiver for SDN can add radio control.

How much power does it draw at rest?

0.5 W on standby, compared with 0.05 W for the Zigbee 120 V version. In a building with a hundred blinds, the difference is 45 W around the clock.

What type of building is it suited for?

Education, healthcare, hospitality, offices, retail, transportation, recreation, and high-end automated homes. It is justified when the project requires a deterministic wired link and integration with a building management system.

Do you install in Montreal, Sherbrooke and the Eastern Townships?

Yes. Le Gars des Stores serves the West Island and Montreal, Vaudreuil-Dorion, the South Shore, the North Shore, western Laval and the Eastern Townships (Sherbrooke, Magog); elsewhere, depending on the project. We handle measuring, made-to-measure ordering, installation and programming.
