What sets this motor apart.
This motor delivers 3 newton-metres, 50% more than the Sonesse ULTRA 30, while keeping the principle of a built-in rechargeable battery. It is designed for large shades, heavy blackout fabrics and tall blinds that no other battery model can handle.
Despite this power, its 40 mm format stays compact and works with standard-size hardware. Its length is identical to that of the Sonesse ULTRA 30 Zigbee: the extra power does not require a wider window.
The 4,600 mAh battery provides about 500 cycles between charges, which is close to a year of daily use.

03 — Which blinds
The right blind for this motor.
28 1/8 in
Blind width
This motor requires a blind at least 28 1/8 in wide.
Below this width, the motor does not fit in the aluminum tube the fabric rolls onto.
This width is identical to that of the Sonesse ULTRA 30 Zigbee, which delivers only 2 newton-metres. For the same size, the Sonesse 40 therefore offers 50% more torque.
What to consider before choosing
- The charger is not included. It must be ordered separately and is essential for both commissioning and maintenance.
- The noise level is 49 dB according to Somfy's official data, seven decibels more than the Sonesse ULTRA 30. For a bedroom where 2 newton-metres is enough, the ULTRA 30 remains the quietest choice.
- This motor requires a 2 in tube or a 2 in heavy duty tube. It does not fit in a 1 1/2 in tube, unlike the 28 and 30 series.
- This motor runs on RTS: the remote sends the command without receiving confirmation. To check the blind's position and battery level remotely, the Zigbee version is the way to go.

What is the most powerful motor with no electrical wiring?
In RTS, the Sonesse 40, with 3 newton-metres. It lifts about 26 lb on a 2 in tube, 50% more than the Sonesse ULTRA 30, while running on a rechargeable battery. In Zigbee, the Sonesse 40 WireFree Zigbee goes up to 4 newton-metres.
What tube does this motor need?
A 2 in tube or a 2 in heavy duty tube. Unlike the 28 and 30 series, it does not fit in a 1 1/2 in tube.
Is the charger included?
No. The charger is ordered separately and is essential for both commissioning and maintenance.
Is this motor noisy?
Somfy lists 49 dB, seven decibels more than the Sonesse ULTRA 30. For a bedroom where 2 newton-metres is enough, the ULTRA 30 remains the quietest choice.
How is it different from the Sonesse ULTRA 30?
The Sonesse 40 offers 3 newton-metres compared with 2, for the same length. For the same size, it therefore provides 50% more torque. On the other hand, it requires a 2 in tube and runs at 49 dB rather than 42.
