01 — At a glance

What sets this motor apart.

This motor delivers 4 newton-metres, double the Sonesse ULTRA 30 and a third more than the Sonesse 40 RTS. It handles the largest shades and heaviest fabrics in the interior lineup, while running on a rechargeable battery.

What sets it apart is that it makes no compromise. Usually, a more powerful motor is noisier. This one goes down to 40 decibels, the lowest level in the entire interior catalogue.

It charges through a USB-C connector, which speeds up charging compared with previous-generation magnetic-head models. A single charge per year is enough under normal use.

  • 4 newton-metres of torque

The most powerful of the battery motors. Lifting capacity of about 35 lb.

  • 40 dB noise level

The lowest noise level in the interior lineup, despite its power.

  • USB-C charging

Faster charging than previous-generation magnetic heads. USB-C solar panel available.

  • Replaceable battery

The battery can be changed instead of the motor, which extends the life of the installation.

  • Interchangeable head

White included, black and grey available, to match the fabric and hardware.

  • ETL listed

Meets building code requirements, useful in commercial and new construction.

03 — Which blinds

The right blind for this motor.

28 1/8 in

Blind width

This motor requires a blind at least 28 1/8 in wide.

Below this width, the motor does not fit in the aluminum tube the fabric rolls onto.

This width is identical to that of the Sonesse 40 RTS and the Sonesse ULTRA 30 Zigbee. For the same size, however, this motor offers double the torque of the ULTRA 30.

What to consider before choosing

  • The USB-C charger is not included and differs from the one used by the other motors in the lineup. The Sonesse 28, ULTRA 30 and Sonesse 40 RTS models use a magnetic-head charger; this one requires a USB-C charger. The two are not interchangeable.
  • Open-field range reaches 80 m, compared with 200 m for RTS models. Zigbee makes up for it with a mesh network between devices, which requires enough devices in a large home.
  • A TaHoma is required for the app, schedules and voice control. Without a TaHoma, a Ysia remote provides local control.
  • No RTS remote is compatible: not Situo, Telis or Smoove. Control goes through a Ysia device, a DecoFlex Zigbee or a TaHoma.
  • For a job with several motors, Somfy offers a USB-C charging station that can handle sixteen motors at once.

05 — Frequently asked questions

What customers ask.

What is the most powerful blind motor with no electrical wiring?

The Sonesse 40 Zigbee, with 4 newton-metres. It lifts about 35 lb, double the Sonesse ULTRA 30, while running on a rechargeable battery.

Is a more powerful motor noisier?

Not this one. It is the most powerful battery motor, and its 40 dB is the lowest noise level in the interior lineup. The less powerful Sonesse 40 RTS runs at 49 dB.

What charger does this motor need?

A USB-C charger, sold separately. Note: the Sonesse 28, ULTRA 30 and Sonesse 40 RTS use a magnetic-head charger. The two types are not interchangeable.

Can the battery be replaced?

Yes. Somfy designed this motor with a replaceable battery, which extends the life of the installation without changing the motor.

How is it different from the Sonesse 40 RTS?

The Zigbee model offers 4 newton-metres compared with 3, runs at 40 dB rather than 49, charges via USB-C and reports the blind's position and charge level in the app. On the other hand, it requires a TaHoma for remote control.

How many motors can be charged at once on a job site?

Somfy offers a USB-C charging station that can handle sixteen motors at once, designed for large-scale installations.

Do you install in Montreal, Sherbrooke and the Eastern Townships?

Yes. Le Gars des Stores serves the West Island and Montreal, Vaudreuil-Dorion, the South Shore, the North Shore, western Laval and the Eastern Townships (Sherbrooke, Magog); elsewhere, depending on the project. We handle measuring, made-to-measure ordering, installation and programming.
