01 — At a glance

What sets this motor apart.

The Sonesse 40 WT (for "Wired Technology") is the wired version of the Sonesse 40 RTS: the same 4 newton-metre motor at 36 rpm, the same 42 dB, but without radio. A wire runs from the motor to the wall switch, which raises and lowers it.

The principle is simple: the limits are set right on the motor during installation, with progressive adjustment screws (no laptop and no electronic tool, according to Somfy). After that, the wall switch does the rest.

It is the motor for hard-wired projects: a switch at the room entrance, an IGC 4n1 controller for four blinds, or a building management system through dry contacts. With a universal RTS receiver, it can also take a remote.

  • Wall switch control

A Somfy wall switch, from $30, is all it takes to raise and lower the blind.

  • 4 newton-metres at 36 rpm

The same mechanics as the Sonesse 40 RTS, without the radio.

  • 42 dB

Four noise-reduction patents covering the brake, rotor, gearbox and accessories.

  • Mechanical limits

Progressive screw adjustment, no electronic tool; 40-turn capacity.

  • Fast connector

1.6 ft cable with fast connector; open-lead extensions from 4.4 to 22.4 ft.

  • The lowest price in the 40 series

$355 MSRP, compared with $579 for the RTS version.

03 — Which blinds

The right blind for this motor.

Confirmed when measuring

Blind width

Somfy does not publish a minimum width for this motor.

It measures 18.82 in (478 mm), 1.65 in shorter than the Sonesse 40 RTS, which requires a blind at least 23 in wide.

The minimum width is confirmed when measuring, based on the blind's tube and end caps.

What to consider before choosing

  • No radio. It responds to neither a remote nor the TaHoma switch, unless it is paired with a universal RTS receiver ($296 MSRP) or an IGC 4n1 controller fitted with its RTS receiver.
  • 120 V connection by an electrician: four wires (two directions, neutral and ground) to the switch or controller. Its extension cables have open leads, with no plug.
  • Somfy does not publish a minimum blind width for this motor. It measures 18.82 in, 1.65 in shorter than the Sonesse 40 RTS: the minimum width is confirmed when measuring.
  • Other torques offered by Somfy: 406A2 (6 Nm, $364 MSRP) and 409R2 (9 Nm, $377 MSRP), to order.

05 — Frequently asked questions

What customers ask.

How is a motor without radio operated?

The limits are set right on the motor during installation. Then a wire runs from the motor to the wall switch: one position to raise, one to lower. Somfy offers toggle or Decora switches, from $30. For several blinds, the IGC 4n1 controller operates four, with three intermediate positions.

Can a remote be added later?

Yes, with a universal RTS receiver ($296 MSRP) connected to the motor: it can then be operated with an RTS remote and the TaHoma switch.

WT or RTS: which one to choose?

The WT ($355) suits hard-wired projects, often commercial, where a switch or a central system operates the blinds. The RTS ($579) is operated wirelessly, by remote or app, and can plug into an ordinary outlet with a NEMA-plug extension.

Is an electrician needed?

Yes. Its extension cables have open leads: the 120 V connection, to the switch or controller, is made by an electrician.

Do you install in Montreal, Sherbrooke and the Eastern Townships?

Yes. Le Gars des Stores serves the West Island and Montreal, Vaudreuil-Dorion, the South Shore, the North Shore, western Laval and the Eastern Townships (Sherbrooke, Magog); elsewhere, depending on the project. We handle measuring, made-to-measure ordering, installation and programming.
