What sets this motor apart.
This tubular motor delivers 1.1 newton-metres, the same power as the Sonesse 28 with built-in battery. What sets it apart is where the battery goes: it mounts outside the tube, hidden behind the blind or in the headbox.
This setup makes the motor nearly eight inches shorter. It is the only model in the catalogue that can fit a narrow window.

03 — Which blinds
The right blind for this motor.
16 3/8 in
Blind width
This motor requires a blind at least 16 3/8 in wide.
Below this width, the motor does not fit in the aluminum tube the fabric rolls onto.
This is the smallest allowable width in the entire lineup. No other motor fits a window this narrow; below it, only a chain mechanism is possible.
What to consider before choosing
- The rechargeable battery is required. The motor does not work without it. The real starting price is therefore $414, higher than the Sonesse 28 with built-in battery at $359.
- This model is not the entry-level option. It is chosen for its compact size, or when a 12 V wired power supply is wanted.
- The battery stays visible if its location is poorly planned. Plan for a headbox, or an installation behind the bottom bar. Extensions of 10, 48 and 96 inches let you move it away from the motor.
- The 1.1 newton-metre torque is not suited to large shades. Those need a Sonesse ULTRA 30, although its length requires a minimum width of 28 1/4 in.

What customers ask.
Which motor should I choose for a narrow window?
The Sonesse 28 with external battery is the only motor in the catalogue suited to a blind less than 24 in wide. With its battery outside the tube, it measures only 13.82 in and fits a blind from 16 3/8 in.
Why is the battery outside the tube?
To shorten the motor. A built-in battery takes up nearly eight inches inside the tube. By moving it, Somfy frees up that space and makes the motor compatible with narrow windows.
Is the battery visible once the blind is installed?
It is if its location isn't planned. It can be hidden behind the bottom bar or in a cassette, or moved away from the motor with 10, 48 or 96-inch extensions.
Can this motor be used without a battery?
Yes. A permanently plugged-in 12 V DC power supply replaces the battery and eliminates charging. This works well when there is an outlet near the blind.
Does this motor cost less than a built-in battery model?
No. Since the battery is required and sold separately, the real starting price is higher than the Sonesse 28 with built-in battery. This model is chosen for its compact size, not its price.
