01 — At a glance

What sets this motor apart.

This 2 newton-metre tubular motor runs on 24 volts DC. No battery, no charging, no maintenance: the blind works as long as it is connected.

24 V is low voltage. On a project with several blinds, all the motors connect to a shared power distribution panel, which is connected to 120 V by a licensed electrician (a Somfy requirement).

  • No charging

The motor is powered at all times. Nothing to maintain, nothing to monitor.

  • 2 newton-metres of torque

Same power as the Sonesse ULTRA 30, in a shorter format.

  • 47 dB noise level

Quiet, though not as quiet as the 42 dB ULTRA 30 models.

  • Interchangeable head

White cover included. Grey and black versions available to match the decor.

  • UL listed

Meets inspection requirements, useful in commercial and new construction.

  • Local control on the head

A button allows direct operation without a remote, especially during installation.

03 — Which blinds

The right blind for this motor.

20 1/4 in

Blind width

This motor requires a blind at least 20 1/4 in wide.

Below this width, the motor does not fit in the aluminum tube the fabric rolls onto.

This motor delivers 2 newton-metres from 20 1/4 in, where the battery-powered Sonesse ULTRA 30 needs 28 1/4. For a narrow window with a heavy shade, it is the only solution in the catalogue, as long as a wired connection is acceptable.

What to consider before choosing

  • The wiring must be planned before the drywall goes up. This motor is meant for new construction and major renovations. For light renovations, battery models remain the right choice.
  • A 24 V wall adapter is enough for one or two blinds. Beyond that, a power distribution panel is needed: from $1,324 for five motors to $3,260 for twenty. This amount is added to the project.
  • At 17.72 in, it is shorter than the Sonesse 28 with built-in battery, despite nearly double the torque. It is the only motor in the catalogue that offers full power without requiring a wide blind.
  • Its IP 30 rating gives slightly better dust protection, but it remains strictly for indoor use.

05 — Frequently asked questions

What customers ask.

What wire gauge should run through the wall?

A two-conductor cable. Somfy allows 240 ft in 14 AWG, 150 ft in 16 AWG and 100 ft in 18 AWG. 20 AWG doorbell wire is not on this list: it can cause a voltage drop that slows the motor down.

Do I need an electrician to install a 24 V motorized blind?

For the power supply, yes. The motors run on 24 V, which is low voltage, but the distribution panel that powers them is connected to 120 V by a licensed electrician, under local and national codes: this is a Somfy requirement.

Can this motor be installed in a renovation?

Only if the walls are open. The wiring must be planned before the drywall goes up. For light renovations, rechargeable battery models remain the right choice.

How many motors can be connected together?

A 24 V wall adapter is enough for one or two blinds. Beyond that, a power distribution panel is needed. Somfy offers them for 5, 10, 15 and 20 motors.

Why choose a wired motor over a battery motor?

So you never have to charge it. A 24 V motor works as long as it is connected. It also delivers 2 newton-metres in a shorter format than most battery motors, which makes it possible to motorize a narrow window with a heavy shade.

Do you install in Montreal, Sherbrooke and the Eastern Townships?

Yes. Le Gars des Stores serves the West Island and Montreal, Vaudreuil-Dorion, the South Shore, the North Shore, western Laval and the Eastern Townships (Sherbrooke, Magog); elsewhere, depending on the project. We handle measuring, made-to-measure ordering, installation and programming.
