01 — At a glance

What sets this motor apart.

This motor runs on ordinary 120 volt power, the same as your wall outlets. It needs no battery, no transformer and no low-voltage distribution panel — unlike 24 V motors.

It delivers 4 newton-metres at 36 rpm, making it both the fastest and one of the most powerful motors in the interior lineup. It draws 0.5 W on standby.

Somfy equips it with a fast connector: the cable plugs in with no tools and no wire stripping. Extensions from 1.4 to 24 feet are available, with or without a NEMA plug: the motor can plug into an existing outlet. Without an accessible outlet, an electrician plans the connection.

  • 120 V power

Ordinary household power. No battery to charge, no transformer, no distribution panel.

  • 4 newton-metres at 36 rpm

The fastest in the interior lineup: nearly double the speed of battery motors.

  • 42 dB

Four noise-reduction patents covering the brake, rotor, gearbox and accessories.

  • Fast connector

Tool-free connection. Extensions from 1.4 to 24 ft, with or without a NEMA plug.

  • Shorter than the battery version

20.47 in, compared with 25.59 in for its battery-powered equivalent.

  • IP 44 rating

Better protected against moisture than battery models, rated IP 20.

03 — Which blinds

The right blind for this motor.

23 in

Blind width

This motor requires a blind at least 23 in wide.

Below this width, the motor does not fit in the aluminum tube the fabric rolls onto.

With no battery to house, it stays shorter than battery motors of the same power: its battery-powered equivalent, the Sonesse 40 Zigbee, requires 28 1/8 in for 4 newton-metres.

What to consider before choosing

  • Radio range is 50 m, compared with 200 m for battery-powered RTS motors. The antenna is built into the motor rather than external. In a large home, the remote's location needs more attention.
  • A power outlet must be accessible near the blind, or a circuit must be planned. This is the main constraint of this motor: it is not suited to an isolated window with no power nearby.
  • The 0.5 W standby draw is constant. Across twenty blinds, that is 10 W around the clock, compared with zero for a battery motor.
  • This motor runs on RTS: the remote sends the command without receiving confirmation. Zigbee and RS485 versions exist in the same series.

05 — Frequently asked questions

What customers ask.

Can a motorized blind be plugged into an ordinary outlet?

Yes, with a 120 V motor like the Sonesse 40 RTS. Somfy offers fast-connector extensions from 1.4 to 24 feet, with a NEMA plug, to plug it into an outlet near the blind. Without an accessible outlet, an electrician plans the connection.

What is the difference between a 120 V motor and a 24 V motor?

A 120 V motor plugs directly into ordinary household power. A 24 V motor requires a transformer, and a distribution panel beyond two blinds — from $1,324 to $3,260. On a small project, 120 V therefore costs less.

Is this motor fast?

It is the fastest in the interior lineup, at 36 rpm, compared with 20 for battery motors. A large blind comes down noticeably faster.

What is the range of the remote?

About 50 m in open field, compared with 200 m for battery-powered RTS motors. The antenna is built into the motor rather than external, which reduces range. In a large home, the remote's location needs more attention.

Does it use electricity at rest?

Yes, 0.5 W on standby. Across twenty blinds, that is 10 W around the clock. A battery motor draws nothing from the grid.

What is the minimum blind width?

23 in. With no battery to house, it is shorter than battery motors of the same power, which require 28 1/8 in.

Do you install in Montreal, Sherbrooke and the Eastern Townships?
