What it does, simply.
The WireFree solar panel mounts on the inside of the window and turns sunlight into electricity, stored in the shade's lithium-ion battery: built into the motor or external.
The kit includes the panel, brackets with screws, glass adhesive and an alcohol swab. According to Somfy, it needs no electrical wiring.

The battery charges in the sun, with no intervention.
One panel per shade
According to Somfy, one panel is enough per motorized shade.

04 — What to consider
Before you buy, good to know…
- It needs direct sunlight. East-, south- and west-facing windows work best, according to Somfy.
- Deep overhangs, awnings, insect screens, large trees or nearby buildings can block the light. Window tint must be removed where the panel goes.
- Glued to the glass: fixed windows only. On a double-hung, casement or sliding window, the panel goes on brackets.
- Zigbee battery motors: they are not on this kit's compatibility list. For the Sonesse 28 and Sonesse ULTRA 30 WireFree RTS, Somfy specifies motors made after March 2020.

What customers ask.
Is the panel enough all year?
Somfy does not publish seasonal output. It needs direct sunlight; a wall charger remains available if needed, according to Somfy.
Which windows can it go on?
Glued to the glass, only on a fixed window. On brackets, also on double-hung, casement or sliding windows. Always on the inside.
Does it take an electrician?
No. According to Somfy, the panel plugs directly into the motor or the external battery.
Which motors are compatible?
WireFree RTS motors with a built-in lithium-ion battery on Somfy's list, and external battery motors with the 9021217 battery. In our lineup: five motors, listed above.
Do you install in Montreal, Sherbrooke and the Eastern Townships?
